What should I do about this situation in my yard?
Well I've just started sharing a horse. He's absolutely lovely, calm, laid back, friendly, but the yard is so unfriendly! Theyre all adults and im 13. They dont say hi to me or anything, or even smile. I walk past them and smile at them, and they just... look. They all gossip in little groups and im the only kind of "kid" there. But becase im sharing him, the actual owner wont let him move yards, and besides, the yard has really good facilities. A horse walker, a huge arena (and a small one behind the stables that I always have to go to on my own because all the adults hog the huge arena) and some good hacking out. Also good stables and tack rooms, and 5 day livery. But everyone there is just so unfriendly. Im getting a bit depressed always riding on my own, although I like it from time to time, every time i ride, I'm alone its just kind of sad. What can I do?
Hmm. In your situation, I'd make sure you look after the horse really well (I'm not saying you don't, but it really does stand you in good stead if your horse's stall and tack is always clean and it's always got enough water and hay etc).
Try not to be one of those people who's constantly doting on their horse and feeding it polos every other minute and constantly talking about it.
Make sure to try and have a conversation with people whenever you can, even if it's just to ask how their ride was or how their horse is. Make sure you listen to them as well as let them know about yourself. You could ask if they'd let you ride with them, or ask for their advice with problems or how to do things.
Listen out for someone asking if they can borrow things; headcollars and leadropes are always missing when they're needed, and offer to lend them yours. If someone seems to be in a rush, offer to turn their horse out for them.
Of course it is possible to try too hard, but it's amazing how much offering to help people and listening to them can do.
Finally, don't give up and don't let yourself think that they're gossiping about you or that they think that you're just a kid. They probably aren't and if they do, then they just need to get to know you better.

ps, none of my friends have horses... I sometimes bring a non-horsey friend with me but i cant all the time!
Have you tried initiating conversation or do you just smile? If I were you, I would walk right up to a group of people and say "Hi! My name is ____ and I lease ____. Would you mind if I rode in the arena with you today?" Then, when they say "of course not" (which they will because you must share facilities- unless there is a problem horse or stallion present) go to the arena. Ride your horse and be respectful of arena rules (generally, pass to the inside, call what you're going to do before you do it, travel in the same direction as the other riders, etc). If you get done before them, stand in the center and observe. Be polite and compliment them if you see something you like.
The next time your at the barn, say hi to the person/ people you rode with and strike up conversation. Maybe "How's ____ doing today? Did you finally get him to pick up the right lead?" Or "How was your ride today?" Just be forward and start a friendly conversation, then go about your business. Pretty soon, the adults will see how horse crazy you are, that you're polite and courteous, that you have a brain and that you're a nice person and the friendships will form on their own.
