How do you prevent stalling your motorcycle at a stop sign or a stop light?
You hold the clutch in...
Do not release after downshifting to first while approaching a stop sign or red light if that is what you are doing. (You can for engine braking, but it is not necessary)
If the bike simply stops idling with the clutch in, turn the idle adjustment screw up on the carburetor, if it's carbureated)

When I stop at a stop sign, my motorcycle idles at like 4k.?
I have a ex250 ninja 2004 4k miles.
I come to a stop sign, in first gear, clutch in, and it idles at 4k, i dont understand!
and it takes a while to warm up. Any hints on warming it up?
EX250 has a choke on the left side grip. I am sure you have checked but, you may have it forward a bit. Doubt that would cause you to go to 4k but, always ask/check the simplest thing first! Second, the EX250 has an idle screw by the carbs. My guess is that you can adjust this to the correct idle (not sure what that is on a 2004 but, that should be easy to find).
If not one of those simple solutions... your issue is 90% probably in the carbs. Either the mixture, the sync, slow jet, dirty carb, etc... Most carb problems are easy to fix yourself or a shop can align or overhaul them for you.
If not this... I would say check your valve clearances and adjust them. Again, not tough to do yourself. Can't imagine anything other than that. I hope it is one of the easy fixes (choke or idle setting).
Also... EX250 are slow to warm-up. Price you pay for owning a great, little Ninja! Good luck.
