Is a motorcycle a dangerous form of transportation?
I want to get a motorcycle for college. My university is so overcrowded that they emphasized more efficient transportation for students, like motorcycles. They take up less space and are more fuel efficient. It costs hundreds of dollars to buy a parking permit for a car, and even then you're only allowed to park in the evening if you're a freshmen. It only costs 10$ for a motorcycle parking permit and they practically on every corner of the campus and they're open 24-hours.
But my father doesn't want me to use a bike because he had bad memories in his childhood of crashing with his moped.

Motorcycles are VERY dangerous.
Mostly because we have to share the road with so many hostile and unskilled car & truck drivers.
I rode street bikes for years, and never had an accident or went down. This was mainly due to my being VERY watchful and riding very conservatively ... and riding ONLY bikes that had very powerful engines.
You are right, a bike is very convenient to park at the university.
If you get a bike, get one that has enough power to get you out of harm's way when (not if) you find yourself in danger caused by a car driver.
Many of the new bikes have enough engine power to get you INTO trouble, but not enough to get you OUT of trouble.
This is an important point.
Also, avoid a bike that is very loud. You will attract the attention of every hostile car driver out there, not to mention the police.
