should I get a warranty on this truck?
2004 f-250 harley davidson 102,000 miles I took it to a mechanic and everything was fine I'm concerned because it has a lot of miles. My bank offered me warranty but it was expensive as heck, this other offered to me by the agency was 1300 for 2 years or 24,000 miles I want opinions. thank you
A lot of miles is a legitimate cause for concern and should give you a great discount on the price of the truck. However, those warranties are usually way overpriced. It depends what the warranty covers. The agency warranty probably covers just the motor and transmission, and then maybe only the parts, not any labor, rental car, or towing. You will still be responsible for brakes, wipers, belts, hoses, tires, battery, gaskets, and electronics, among other things. Many of those things might be covered by the bank warranty, but it definitely sounds like a ripoff. Since the truck is only 3-4 years old and the mechanic gave it a clean bill of health, I would pass on the warranty and save $110 a month in an emergency fund for major repairs. I would expect you to get by in the next 24 months with maybe a periodical service for brakes, belts, and hoses, and maybe have to replace a battery or a windshield wiper motor and you will still have your $1300 in an emergency fund.

My opinion - it's not old enough to need fixing.
It won't be old enough to need that kind of fixing by the time this "warranty" wears out.
Another five years, maybe.
Short version: I don't think it's worth it.
